The Weight You Were Not Built to Carry
Rest is not a reward for finishing your work; it is an invitation offered in the middle of it.
There is a tiredness that sleep does not reach. You know the kind. You close your eyes and the list is still there, running its errands behind them. Morning comes and you are already behind. You are not lazy. You are carrying something.
Jesus spoke to people like this. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." He did not say come when you have recovered. He said come as you are, weary and still carrying the load.
Notice what he offers. Not the end of work, but rest inside it. In the next breath he says, "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." A yoke is still a thing you wear. It still binds you to a task. But a yoke shared is a yoke that no longer sits on one neck alone.
This is the quiet correction the tired heart needs. Much of what exhausts us is not the work God gave us. It is the work we took on to prove we were enough. That burden has no bottom. You can pour a whole life into it and it will ask for more.
So lay it down tonight. Not everything. Just the part you were never meant to hold. The grudge you are still rehearsing. The outcome you cannot control. The verdict you keep seeking from people who will never give it.
Keep the real work. Set down the rest. Then sleep.
