New Every Morning
In the middle of a book of grief, one line insists that mercy has not run out.
"Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." These words come from Lamentations, a book of poems written out of loss. Lamentations does not hurry past pain. It sits inside it. And then, near the centre, it turns.
Notice what the writer does not say. He does not say the trouble is over. He does not promise an easy day. He says the mercy is new. Whatever was spent yesterday has been restored by morning.
That is a quiet claim, and a large one. It means today is not weighed down by the failures of the day before. The account does not carry a debt forward. You are met, again, at the start.
If you are tired, read it slowly. The love that holds you is not thinning with use. It arrives fresh, on time, in the exact measure the morning needs.
