When I See the Blood
The night of Passover turns on what God sees on the doorframe, not on who is inside.
Exodus 12:13NIV
Exodus 12:13. The tenth plague is coming, and God tells his people to put the blood of a lamb on the sides and tops of the doorframes of their houses. The blood will be a sign for them. When God sees the blood, he will pass over them, and no destructive plague will touch them.
Notice what the verse does not say. It does not say that God will pass over the houses of the sincere, the obedient, or the Israelite. He passes over the houses with blood on the door. Inside there may be a family who understood everything or a family who barely believed and did it anyway. The protection is not in their feeling but in the sign.
This is why the apostle Paul could say in 1 Corinthians 5:7 that Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. Our safety on the day of judgment rests on what God sees, and what he sees is the blood of his Son applied to us. On a Tuesday when your faith feels thin, this verse is enough. He looks at the door, not at your mood.
