The Gardener Who Gives Us Enough
God plants, tends and provides, and learning to receive what he grows in us is the beginning of contentment.
Scripture opens in a garden. "Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed." The first thing we are told about our place in the world is that it was prepared for us. We did not clear the ground. We were set down in soil already worked.
That ordering matters. A gardener plants with a purpose, and tends what is planted with patience. The Christian life is lived inside that patience. We are not asked to manufacture growth but to remain where we have been placed, drawing on what we have been given.
This is why contentment is not resignation. It is trust in a God who provides enough. In a world that measures us by more, Scripture offers a quieter arithmetic: "But godliness with contentment is great gain."
To be content is to believe the Gardener knows what he is doing. He has planted. He will tend. What grows is his to give, and ours to receive with open hands.
