The Ground Beneath the Promise
A new trail through Samaria invites walkers to stand where Scripture was first spoken, and to ask what it means to follow a promise on foot.
Israel's Ministry of Tourism has opened the Joshua Trail in Samaria, a route that carries visitors across a suspension bridge overlooking some of the most consequential locations in biblical history. Charisma News frames it as a chance to walk where Abraham is said to have heard God's promise. The land, in this telling, is not a backdrop. It is part of the account.
Abraham's story begins with a command to move. In the words of Genesis 12:1, "The LORD had said to Abram, 'Go from your country, your people and your father's household to the land I will show you.'" The promise came before the map. Abraham had to walk before he could see what he was walking toward.
That is the pattern worth sitting with today. Faith is often given as a direction rather than a destination. We are told to go, and the meaning is shown along the way.
A trail can make this vivid, but it cannot replace it. You do not need a bridge in Samaria to obey a call. The ground beneath any honest step of trust is holy enough. Where is God asking you to go before you can see the whole of it? Begin there, and keep walking.
