The Weight You Were Not Meant to Carry
Tiredness is not a failure of faith; it is the body telling the truth, and the invitation of Jesus meets it exactly there.
There is a kind of tiredness that sleep does not fix. You wake and it is still there, waiting by the bed. Many people know it well. They carry work, and worry, and the quiet labour of caring for others. They carry things no one sees.
Jesus spoke to people like this. In Matthew 11:28 he says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Read it slowly. He does not scold the weary. He does not tell them to try harder. He calls them, as they are, and names what they feel. Weary. Burdened. Then he offers the one thing they cannot give themselves.
Notice the order. The invitation comes first. Nothing is asked of you before you are allowed to come. You do not have to arrive rested. You do not have to tidy your heart first. The coming is the whole of it.
Rest, here, is not only sleep. It is the lifting of a weight you were not built to hold alone. Some loads are ours to carry for a season. Others we have taken up without being asked, and have never set down.
So set one down today. Choose a single burden and name it honestly before God. Then leave it with him, even for an hour. You can pick it up again if you must. You may find you do not want to.
The invitation stands. It is open now.
