A Prayer for Love That Grows
A prayer drawn from Paul's opening petition for the church at Philippi.
Philippians 1:9-11NIV
Father, we thank you for the people you have joined us to. For the ones who have shared in our work and prayed for us when we did not know it. For the church, with all its overseers and deacons and ordinary saints. We remember them before you with joy, as Paul remembered Philippi.
We ask that our love would abound more and more. Not sentiment alone but love with knowledge, love with depth of insight, so that we can tell what is best and choose it. Keep us from a love that is easily fooled and from a wisdom that has gone cold.
You began a good work in us. We confess that we often doubt you will finish it. Carry it on, Lord, until the day of Christ Jesus. Fill us with the fruit of righteousness that comes through him, so that whatever we do this weekend brings glory and praise to you. Amen.
