A Prayer for the Tired
For the end of a long day, when strength is thin and the work is not done.
Lord, I come to you tired. Not in despair, only worn. The day asked more of me than I had, and I gave what I could.
Thank you for the hours that held together. For the meal eaten, the task finished, the kind word I did not expect. For the people who shared the load without being asked.
Forgive me for the sharp reply, the thing left undone, the prayer I meant to pray and forgot. You know the whole of it. I do not need to explain.
Steady me now. Loosen the grip of tomorrow’s list. Let me set it down for the night and trust that it will keep.
Watch over those I love while I sleep. Watch over those who cannot sleep. Be near the ones working through the dark so that others may rest.
Give me rest that is real. And in the morning, give me enough. Amen.
