A Prayer for the Tired
For those who come to the end of the day with little left to give.
God of the long hours, we come to you worn.
We have carried what we could. Some of it we carried well. Some of it slipped. We do not pretend otherwise, and we trust that you already know.
Thank you for the work that was finished and for the work that was not. Thank you for the people who shared the weight, named or unnamed. Thank you for rest, which is not a reward but a gift.
Where we were short with others, soften us. Where others were short with us, hold us steady. Keep us from measuring the day only by what it produced.
Teach us to lay things down. The unanswered message. The worry that circles. The task that will keep until morning.
Be near to the ones who cannot sleep tonight, and to those who sleep alone. Watch over the small hours.
We ask nothing grand. Only that you stay close, and that tomorrow we begin again. Amen.
