A Prayer for Those Who Have Waited Long
A prayer shaped by Hannah's years of provocation and her poured-out soul.
1 Samuel 1:10-11NIV
Lord Almighty, you remembered Hannah. We bring you those among us who have waited for years, who have been provoked by comparison, who go to worship and feel the ache more sharply there than anywhere else. Look on their misery as you looked on hers.
Teach us to pour out our souls. We are practised at holding things in and at offering you tidy prayers that leave the real weight untouched. Give us the honesty to bring all of it, the years and the shame and the unanswered questions, and to leave it with you.
And when your answers come, make us like Hannah, quick to say that we prayed and you heard, and willing to give back what you have given. Guard us from clutching your gifts. Bless the children in our homes and churches, and raise up among them those who will hear your voice. We ask it in the name of Jesus, who poured out his soul for us. Amen.
