A Prayer Under the Night Sky
A prayer for those who have waited a long time, shaped by God's promise to Abram in Genesis 15.
Genesis 15:1-6NIV
Lord God, you told Abram not to be afraid, that you were his shield and his very great reward. We come to you tonight as people who are often afraid. We are afraid of what will not happen, of what might happen, of growing old with prayers unanswered. Speak that word to us again.
Abram told you plainly that he had no child, and you did not rebuke him for it. Give us the courage to say what is actually true about our waiting. Then take us outside, as you took him, and show us something bigger than our disappointment.
We believe. Help us where we do not. Count our small trust as you counted his, not because it is impressive but because it is placed in you.
Thank you for walking between the pieces alone. Thank you that the covenant does not rest on our strength. Keep us until morning, and keep your promise, in the name of Jesus. Amen.
